Birth Chart Astrology Painting

I have been painting birth chart’s for people for the past two years and it has been such an honor and privilege! When people connect with their painting so deeply, it is such a beautiful feeling. Knowing that my art allows others to connect with who they are at a deep level, is the greatest reward.

Here are the paintings I have created so far!

The Process

So to being the process I use the birth date, time and place of the individual to generate an astrology reading of their time of birth. This is known as the birth chart or natal chart.

Then I read the aspects of the chart which includes the planets, houses, and constellations. Generating an over all view of the energy of the person. From here I begin the intuitive painting process.

Painting

Intuitive painting is a process in which I get into a mindful state of being, and allow the paint and tools to lay the ground work for the energy I am focusing on. When I read a persons energy through astrology I often receive visuals that I incorporate into the work. The constellations and the symbols of the zodiac signs are also included into the work.

Birth Chart paintings are $250.
*they will increase to $300 in 2023.

Canvas Rebel, Voyage Baltimore Interviews

Before Canvas Rebel, in 2021, I was interviewed by Voyage Baltimore,

Canvas Rebel

Hi Raine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore, with my mom, dad and two sisters. My mother is Turtle Mountain Chippewa, and attended boarding school from the time she was 6 until she graduated. As a result she learned very little about our ancestral teachings. So I grew up in typical American culture in the 1980s. I got where I am today because of those who came before me. I am Turtle Mountain Chippewa and German Irish. My ancestors survived many things, and it is because of their resilience and love that I am able to be who I am today.

It all started when I was a little girl, watching Bob Ross paint happy trees and mountains. I remember setting my paper up like a canvas on an easel, mixing colors, and tapping the brush on the paper along with him. I always loved to create. I remember during the holidays I would use construction paper to create real-life scenes of fireplaces and Christmas trees with presents under them on the walls in my room. I would doodle on pages of paper and fill each space in with a different design. Or build little towns with scrap blocks of wood in the yard. Creating has always been my favorite pastime.

Canvas Rebel Interview

In October I received an email from a project off shoot of Voyage Baltimore and was interviewed by Canvas Rebel online magazine

Here are few highlights from the interview!

Is there a mission driving your creative journey?

My goal and mission is to help people to remember we are all connected, through the use of our imaginations and sharing our stories. My goal as an artist is to create art that expresses my story, which is to share with the world my experiences and how I interpret my connection to all around me. My mission is to use my art and passion for creative living to inspire others to share their stories through creative expression. Filling the world with humans who have self-awareness through a connection with themselves and the world around them helps us remember we are all connected. I often ask myself what happens when we all remember we are all connected? Simply asking the question leaves a person with the realization that we must respect each person’s part in this dance of life. Living life in harmony, with gratitude.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding thing for me as a creative is sharing my intuitive gifts. I tap into energy, to create one-of-a-kind art for each individual person. Intuitive henna readings, and birth chart paintings are a few ways I share this gift.

Intuitive Henna readings are when I spend time meditating with a person’s energy and see their energy through visuals and feelings. I use those images and the feelings of the flow of the energy to create their unique design at that moment. The design is created as a temporary tattoo which lasts anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks. When I am creating the design, I share with each person the feeling of the energy and how it relates to them. Every time I do a reading the client is surprised by the images I create, and the feeling I share with them. Being able to share my gifts with someone through art, and allow them to connect with art and themselves, is such a rewarding experience.

I love to be able to sit with another person and share my creative gifts to help them know themselves better. This is the most rewarding and the reason I started doing intuitive birth chart paintings for clients. I read the energy of their birth chart and create a piece of art that helps them see themselves better. Sharing the reading with each client helps them to know more of who they have come to this earth to be. The mission is to remember we are all connected, and I do this by helping others see themselves through art.

What does it mean to be a Canvas Rebel?

To me a canvas represents a blank slate to create new works of art. Its a new beginning and a perfect place to build a reality that I desire.

As for the word rebel, it is one who resist authority, control, or convention.

When I paint I am totally a rebel… on canvas. Resisting conventions or ideas that painting has to be one specific way.

TAB Camp Mid-Atlantic 2022

WHAT IS TAB?

TAB stands for Teaching Artistic Behaviors, which is a teaching method for Art Education.

TAB

Choice-Based Art Education is student centered and based around teaching through the use of the Studio Habits of Mind.

The Studio Habits of Mind are ways in which we process our experiences, here is a great project example. They are very similar to the Scientific Method, or the Mathematical Practices.

TAB CAMP

Teachers in the Mid-Atlantic area came together the first weekend in August for a retreat, to reignite the flame before school begins. When Pam Ehrenreich asked if I knew of a place to host a retreat for teachers in our area I was THRILLED to offer my studio space.

TASK Party

When everyone arrived we started the weekend with appetizers and a TASK party! It was a nice way to get into the weekend… start to make art and open ourselves up new ideas.

Silk Screening TAB SHIRTS

Tracy Skeels shared her method of silk screening. We created stencils from paper and worked together to print our designs.

We shared different projects and resources with each other, creating examples for our students. Julie Dimino shared all of her amazing resources with us!

There were presentations on Cold Finishes on Clay, Gelli Printing, Weaving, and Cyanotypes. Each presentation was so insightful and inspiring.

Cold Finishes for Fired Clay

Jen Byrne shared a few awesome tips for cold finishing clay! Mixing metallic acrylic paint with water in buckets for a quick dip in the shimmer bath!

Gelli Printing

Tracy Skeels presented on gelli printing, and we were able to explore and create to our hearts content.

Cyanotype

Kate Heuston presented on cyanotype, and her experimentation with the process as an artist. We tried new techniques like drawing on acetate, and using transparencies to create different layers of prints.

Weaving

April Pink presented weaving, and we learned quick and easy ways for our students to be able to weave on cardboard looms.

We also shared the many resource for how we structure our classrooms. The reflection and discussion time were super valuable.

Aside from all the learning, it was great to meet like minded individuals and also have time to create art of our own.

Painting Flow and Glow Party

On Saturday evening we had an intuitive painting party. Each teacher created their own work of art, and then we discussed how we could use this in our classrooms.

The weekend was so amazing. 10 art educators coming together to share and create!

If you missed out on this years, keep an eye out for next! It will be the first weekend in August 2023.

Yoga Love Festival 2022

The second annual Yoga Love Festival was held at Amethyst Retreat Center. This year was wonderfully planned to flow in and out of sound, yoga, and art experiences at a beautiful and sacred space.

Yoga Love

The first festival was held before the lockdown, and was a beautiful event, but this years topped it.

There were local artist, healers, food vendors, musicians, and dancing!

There was an amazing artist from Pennsylvania that created a performance piece! King Prolific painted this upside down and then lit it on fire to reveal the woman!

There was Yoga, and Love.

Every year I look forward to this event! If you haven’t been, you need to keep your eyes out for it next year!

Inclusion Festival 2022

This was my first year at Inclusion Fest. It was held at the Kempton Community Center in Pennsylvania.

Inclusion Festival is an accessible music and wellness festival for everyone! Designed to accommodate all ages and abilities, featuring sensory-friendly and empowering live music, immersive experiences, and a large variety of educational and recreational workshops.

Inclusion Festival

Inclusion Festival and our year-round inclusion programs are initiatives of Accessible Festivalsa 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to making music and recreation accessible to all people.

Inclusion Festival was co-founded in 2017 by Amy Pinder and Leah Barron. Amy and Leah met at a music festival in 2014, where they realized they shared the same passion and vision of creating a festival that welcomed people of all abilities. A few years later, another festival brought them together as they found themselves serendipitously camped next to one another and spent the weekend discussing how to turn their dream into a reality.

Accessible Festivals was co-founded in 2014 by Austin Whitney and Oren Shani. Six months after a car accident that left Austin paralyzed from the waist down, he attended a music festival that left him feeling joy and hope for the first time since his spinal cord injury. He joined forces with his friend Oren and decided to dedicate his life to helping others have the same positive and transformation experience.

Each of our inclusion programs celebrate the value of all abilities through music, art, nature, movement, and more— with a goal of shifting culture at other community events and spaces so inclusiveness and accessibility become the norm.

https://inclusionfestival.com/about-us/

My friend, Hex Botanical goddess, Alison Hunley invited me to join her as a vendor. I am so glad I did. It was the most wonderful weekend.

There were many wonderful activities and workshops for kids and adults. It was great that our kids were able to come and enjoy the event with us. They really had a great time doing all of the tasks and workshops. Playing on the playground and enjoying the hammocks! It was a very safe and supportive environment. Reminded me of a festival style Kids Yoga Love festival!

I had a wonderful weekend… from making bags for meals on the go, or watching Element sift for crystals! I also enjoyed doing the silent dance party. It was so fun and freeing. There were fire dancers with amazing performances. Old typewriters that we could write our manifestos on, and decorating the tablecloth with florescent ink.

Lets not forget seeing Kuf Knotz and Christine Elise play again!

It was such a creative and magickal weekend. Dancing and singing and creating with one another and our children. What a great way to bring in this new season.

I am so excited for next year! A beautiful way to bring together community and support one another.

Art Heals

When we heal our emotional body we heal our physical body. When our mindset is balanced so is our body. It’s listening and responding to what it’s told.

“Grandma, how do you deal with pain?”
“With your hands, dear. When you do it with your mind, the pain hardens even more.”
“With your hands, grandma?”
“Yes, yes. Our hands are the antennas of our Soul. When you move them by sewing, cooking, painting, touching the earth or sinking them into the earth, they send signals of caring to the deepest part of you and your Soul calms down. This way she doesn’t have to send pain anymore to show it.
“Are hands really that important?”
“Yes my girl. Think of babies: they get to know the world thanks to their touch.
When you look at the hands of older people, they tell more about their lives than any other part of the body.
Everything that is made by hand, so it is said, is made with the heart because it really is like this: hands and heart are connected.
Think of lovers: When their hands touch, they love each other in the most sublime way.”
“My hands grandma… how long since I used them like that!”
“Move them my love, start creating with them and everything in you will move.
The pain will not pass away. But it will be the best masterpiece. And it won’t hurt as much anymore, because you managed to embroider your Essence.”

~Elena Barnabé

What does it mean to embroider our Essence? To add details to our essence that make it more interesting. Taking the darkness we all go through, and bringing life and light to it through creating with our hands. Darkness is necessary for there to be light, it’s all about what we do with the energy that determines how we live.

Healing through Art

This workshop is based around using our hands to heal and move through grief. We connect with our inner creator and bring about manifestations that move us to heal and reform that energy into how we desire to feel.

The power is within us… and is expressed through our hands. We build our lives with our hands. We comfort one another with our hands. We give and receive with our hands. They are powerful tools. ❤

Through art exploration and experimentation, we can learn how to transform our minds and hearts with our hands.

This is diving into ourselves and bring forth our inner being with the use of our hands and art materials as tools.

We each create a piece of art using our hands as the focus for channeling energy through them. Creating works that really dive into our essence, rather than representational painting, this experience is more about creating rather than focusing on having a final painting that looks a certain way.

We create meaningful pieces, that we will love because it comes from who we are. Creating art that resonates an energy you have chosen with intent, at this moment in your life, is a very powerful tool for manifesting.

NFT 2022

In February I hosted a Crypto Art Series webinar that discussed what NFT’s are. We had a great turn out, and there were still more people who couldn’t make it that wanted to learn more!

Since there is a lot of hype around the NFT scene, and a lot of people are still unsure what it’s all about I am going to share a few slides from our webinar.

NFT stands for Non-Fungible Token.

Non Fungible

A dollar is FUNGIBLE. A piece of art is NOT.

NFT

They do not have to be solely digital, and can represent ownership of physical property as well, such as real estate.

SMART CONTRACTS

Smart contracts are a way to verify that the transaction has been completed as written.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS

UTILITY

NFT

There are MANY utilities for NFT’s. Collecting artwork is just one of them.

Look out for the next blog that will discuss how NFT’s fit into the art world.

Channeling Indigenous Teachings

Channeling: to be inspired by, (of a person) serve as a medium for (a spirit).

It comes from the Latin root word for reed. A reed was used as a channel, to allow things to flow from one place to another.

When I start painting, I tap into a flow of energy that is coming from one place and being directed into the canvas. I use many techniques to allow this energy to flow out … such as dripping paint, spraying it with a spray bottle, scraping with a card, moving it with my fingers across the canvas, turning the canvas… tapping into the energy and allowing it to flow from my hands onto the canvas.

Channel Flow

I am the channel for the flow of energy that is around me.

Recently my ancestors have been coming through heavily. The paintings showing up are based on the connection to my Anishinaabe heritage.

This image represents the Seven Generation Prophecy, along with transmuting the energy of the children lost at the residential boarding schools, and balancing the feminine and masculine energies within each of us.

When I paint, I can feel the energy of these experiences… I can feel the story they want to tell. It has been a powerful experience and I am so excited for the energy that wants to be shared!

This painting represents my Sundance experience. I feel as though there are still a few things that need to be added to this painting but this image has been speaking to me for a while. The man in the middle represents the dancer, we had sage wrapped in red cloth around our wrists and ankles, as well as a hoop that we carried. The middle of the circle was a tree with our prayer flags tied to it. This tree was a Y shape and represented duality coming together. We danced in a circle and a dragonfly pattern, sending our prayers out into the ether through each movement and breath.

Channel

The next painting shows the Fancy Shaw Dance, and energy of the pow wow. The energy and current that flows from dancing in circles with intention and prayer. This one is also unfinished at the moment, but I am really happy with the story thats showing up.

The energy I feel from these paintings is so intense…. I am honored to be in their presence.

Karnival of the Arts

What’s a Karnival?

  • a public event or celebration, typically held outdoors and offering entertainment and exhibitions.
  • an exciting or riotous mixture of something.
Karnival of the Arts

The Karnival of the Arts Organized by Kollective Grounds, a diverse group of individuals, music festival contributors and true fans of music dedicated to enhancing the community and human condition through art appreciation and inclusion.

https://www.karnivalofthearts.com/

This was my first year at this event, and it was such an amazing experience. I set up my area to paint, sell my prints, and do henna. As people arrived, the campground slowly turned into a beautiful scene of color and life!

Live Painting

This was my first festival that I did live painting at! There are a few artists and friends that I know who are really amazing Live painters, who go to MANY festivals to paint while jamming to live music! Jenny Mathews was the amazing artist that invited me to be apart of this experience.

Artists in photos from top left to bottom right:

It was such an awesome experience painting live at a festival. I felt a freedom and excitement that I hadn’t felt before. I am so looking forward to doing it again!

I was also asked to create an interactive mural for everyone… so we did the flower of life!

The weekend was so perfect to bring people together through the arts. I got to spend some nice one on one time with a few friends and make art!

The Karnival of the Arts is such an amazing experience! The next one is going to be Sept 1st-4th 2022 at Kempton Fairgrounds, Kempton, PA.

Healing Hands

Recently I facilitated a workshop that used art for healing.

When we create art, we are generating energy. We are putting our intentions and energy into each mark.

During the workshop we focused on body awareness, while moving both our hands with art materials.

We closed our eyes so we could really get into the feeling of our energetic aura. To the places in our bodies that felt stiff or tense, areas that were tight or sore. We worked those spots out in our minds eye, while moving the art materials in both hands as if we were actually massaging out all of the tension.

Healing Hands

Healing Through Art Making

Each stroke of the oil or chalk pastel was a release of stored energy that no longer served us. Each mark presented letting go of things we no longer needed. Releasing it into the paper.

After releasing we went right into creating. We first visualized what our bodies felt like after we’ve received that which we desire. How did we feel in our bodies when we have that what we wish to receive. Then we used that energy to create another image on top of the old marks.

We listened to a meditative playlist… with two major songs: I Release Control, and I Am Loving Awareness. Such great mantras for opening up to all that is yours by divine right.

The artwork came out fantastically, and really embodied each person’s energy. Such a powerful process for making changes in our lives.

Thank you everyone who attended. This was such a wonderful workshop, I look forward to doing more!
