Midsummer Holistic Expo

Midsummer Fun

The Midsummer Holistic Expo was July 10th and 11th, 2021. The weekend of the Cancer full moon, a time of creativity and compassion. Divine feminine energy, nurturing and creating!

Jeanne from Therapeutic Thymes Magazine hosted this expo at the Lancaster Farm & Home Center. She did an amazing job setting up vendors and speakers for this awesome weekend!

This weekend was so magickal, and affirming in so many ways. I have been doing Intuitive Henna for about 6 years now, and every time I do a reading for the design I am in AWE of the universe.

Intuitive Henna is the creation of a design, based off of each individuals unique energy. I spend time meditating with the persons energy to create the design, which is a sigil for their unique energy vibration in that moment.

The readings were amazing, everyone was spot on. Doing henna is such a joy for me, and I can no do it without the other people. It’s an interaction between two energies that bring the designs to life.

Aside from the amazing designs, I also met and connected with so many amazing people. I am so excited for the connections and what the future holds.

Here are a few amazing vendors from the Midsummer expo:

Deb Davis-Koval was my neighbor at the event. She sells teas made from Chicory root. The different herbs she adds for each tea blend came from dreams she had, tapping into her intuition to create a healthy and delicious tea! I was so excited to give her a reading.

Nutri-Chic teas are a delicious blend of ground chicory root with various teas, and beneficial herbs and spices. Chicory root, the main ingredient in Nutri-Chic, has amazing health benefits to support your body and healthy lifestyle!

Nutri-Chic is owned by Deb Davis-Koval

Eagle Skyfire was the keynote speaker. I had the honor of doing a henna reading for her.

Eagle Skyfire is a powerful Shaman, Seer and Tradition Keeper honed by legacy and experience to become a sought after teacher, reader, spiritual leader, and speaker on native traditions and spirituality.  In addition, she now is a published author with her first book, Journeying Between the Worlds: Walking with the Sacred Spirits through Native American Teachings and Practices, published by Llewellyn.

I also sold a few canvas prints of my digitized original paintings! You can purchase your own here!

Thank you everyone for your love and support.

Art Expo 2019

One of my favorite art lessons to do with my 8th grade is the Art Expo!

Art Expo Lesson Plan

For this lesson I began by talking to the students about art supply businesses and the NAEA convention!

We observed videos I took during the NAEA expo hall experience, discussed what it means to be a vendor, and created theatrical characters that students performed as in the final day of the unit!

Students loved researching and becoming the expert of materials, and then sharing what they learned through acting and presenting! We invited other teachers, administration and parents to our final Art expo day.

Character Development

Each student was tasked with creating a character that was an expert on an art material. Students completed a character development worksheet, that identified their characters name, birthday, education, and work experience with the art material.

Art Expo

Art Materials

The first year I did this with my gifted and talented students and I allowed them to select which materials they wanted from a list of materials I premade. I did not want students to use things like colored pencils and markers since they have so much experience with them already. When I retaught this lesson to my academic art class, I allowed them to choose more typical art supplies.

Vending Tables

Students had to create a table set up that included history, techniques, and types of the material. They also had to show 2 examples of art using the material, and have a 5 minute activity that visitors could do to explore the materials.

The students LOVED this project, and so did the Admin! Its student centered to the core.

Art Expo Material Notes

We spent about one whole week researching and preparing our displays and characters. The expo was held on American Education Week. Students and materials were divided between 2 days to present. When students weren’t presenting, they were attending the expo as guest artists looking for a new art material. Students used Ridgely bucks to purchase some materials from the vendors, and at the end the vendor with the most bucks one a gift card to Michaels.

After the expo we had to go over each board and activity again making sure each student received feedback from their peers on the notes packet.  If you’re interested in hearing more about this lesson please feel free to leave me a comment!

First quarter down…

What an eventful first quarter it has been!

My student artists have completed a variety of projects, focusing on the Elements and Principles of Art along with other techniques. They have had multiple opportunities to be Ceeqers and to really personalize their learning.

Our first big project was our locker name tags. It was a group decision by our faculty to hang plastic sleeves on every locker with the first installation being a name tag for each student. So in art class, every student created their own personalized name tag that focused on an element and principle of design.  The results were fantastic! Our halls went from dull grey lockers to a personalized space that the students truly feel is theirs.

The 8th grade GT Artists created puzzles to represent the Elements and Principles of Design, using multiple materials and techniques!

Student artists in my studio created Zentangle masterpieces next! We did contour line drawings of objects, then artists chose any object or image they wanted, and zentangled it in with patterns and designs. After creating their zentangle objects, artists experimented with watercolor to create a fun background.

We have had a lot of fun so far, I am looking forward to more fun!! The 8th grade GT artists are working on their Mantle of the Expert presentations where they have to create an art materials sales persona and will present their art material at an art expo. Half of the class will perform and present their materials and activities while the other half are the artists looking for art materials to work with. Each art material salesperson has to create a vendor table with at least 5 techniques, 2 art examples, a 5 minute art activity, and business cards.

6th and 7th grade artists went outside today and created nature art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy! Each group took photos of their work in progress to create a stop motion video of their art coming to life. Some artists decided that they would like to create a time-lapse video on their phones!

I hope you enjoyed our projects as much as we did creating them!!
