Its always darkest before the dawn…

Recently I’ve wanted to paint more, however all things have not aligned for me to do so, whether its time or energy. I realize things are cycles but the feelings I’ve been getting have been pretty deep…

My heart keeps saying… Paint, Paint, Paint… be creative, but my mind goes through a process of elimination…. “you don’t have enough time, you don’t know what you want to create, you’ll get interrupted, its too much work.” All of these thoughts constantly swirl through my mind… but my heart keeps beating “Paint, Paint, Paint.”

The other day I was sitting around thinking about painting… feeling like perhaps its not what I should be doing with my time and energy. Maybe I’m supposed to do something more productive, using my time in a more valuable way. Maybe painting isn’t a focus of my life path anymore….. and then my phone buzzed, literally as soon as my thought had completed….

It was the universe answering me…

Almost a year ago I hung some of my artwork at my friend Jaime’s wellness center Relaxing Note. It wasn’t until recently that people started purchasing my paintings there. The other day was one of those days… right as I was questioning wanting to put more focus into painting, when I was questioning if it was valuable and apart of my path to keep painting… the universe sent this message to me…

20180205_085212.png

This was such a wake up call, the angels were definitely speaking to me. I often ask for their guidance when it comes to any unalignment I might feel between my head and my heart and on Saturday they showed up to tell me something…. keep painting.

Its like there’s something keeping me from picking up a brush and putting it in some paint and just doing the thing. Its not like I’m painting any specific image, as I figure doing an intuitive painting would be the easiest to start with…. though I’m not sure that’s the case. I was able to draw 4 different pictures out… specific imagery and clean lines. Nothing too intuitive about them… so why does it feel so hard to just put some paint on the canvas!

I start to ask myself why is that I want to paint but feel unable to take action. What can I do or should I do to start painting… to begin a painting. I go into my studio, I clear off the desk, hang a painting and stand there and stare at it… unable to move… so I pulled some cards…

patience

Whoa… talk about affirmation.

Abundance: Accepting the inner world and denying the outer world, or vice versa keeps us half… and no one who is half can be contented. We must be whole, rich in body, rich in science; rich in meditation, rich in consciousness. We must support our masculine and feminine energies within.

Remembering its all about the balance within and without.

New Vision: Seeing life in all its dimensions, from the depths to the heights. They exist together, and when we come to know from experiences that the dark and the difficult are needed as much as the light and easy, then we begin to have a very different perspective on the world. By allowing all of life’s colors to penetrate us, we become more integrated.

This was how my whole thought about painting started… is there a different perspective I should be seeing my creative energies…other than through painting? Is it ok for me to not be painting even though I feel like I should be? And with that thought I started to feel like I wasn’t aligned, like I was missing something… however I’m constantly realizing there is no missing something… everything is as it should be.

When your inner being opens, first it experiences two directions… the height and depth, and then slowly as this becomes your established situation, we start looking around, spreading into all other directions. This is known as Bhagavat in the ten directions.

Once your height and depth meet, you can look around to the very circumference of the universe. Your consciousness starts unfolding in all ten directions, but the road has been one.

Trust: NOW is the moment to jump. Move into the unknown…even if it scares us to death. When we take trust to the level of the quantum leap we don’t make any elaborate plans or preparations. We don’t say “okay, I trust that I know what to do now, and I’ll settle my things and pack my suitcase and take it with me.” The leap is the thing…and the thrill of it as we free-fall through the empty sky. When we trust, only then can we put our mind aside and open up to the immense infinity we are connected to. Nothing can be taken from us… We cannot lose our real treasure.

Trusting that nothing is wrong… that everything is right, even though I FEEL like there is something out of alignment. Trust and take the leap, just do it.

Silence: Now is a very precious time. Rest inside. There is nothing to do, nowhere to go, and the quality of your inner silence permeates everything you do. It might make you uncomfortable, accustomed as you are to all the noise and activity of the world. Never mind; Seek out those who can resonate with your silence and enjoy your aloneness. Now is the time to come home to yourself. The understanding and insights that come to you in these moments will be manifested later on, in a more outgoing phase of your life.

The understanding and insights that come to you in these moments will be manifested later on, in a more outgoing phase of your life. Wow.

Patience: We have forgotten how to wait. There are times when the only thing to do is to wait. The seed has been planted, the child is growing in the womb, the oyster is coating the grain of sand and making it into a pearl. This card reminds us that now is a time when all that is required is to be simply alert, patient, waiting….contented with no trace of anxiety.

So with this reading I see… my anxiety over if I am doing what I should be doing, or if I am spending my time in the best possible way, is really me not seeing that all is always as it should be. This is a time for trusting in the silence and having patience in the manifestation of new vision.

Unicorn Birthday Painting Party

This past weekend I taught twelve 10 year old girls how to paint a unicorn! It was a blast! I love working with young adults who are eager to create.

First we drew our unicorns using vine charcoal, and basic shapes. Each girl drew her own unicorn, and decided which colors they wanted to use.

After unicorn was drawn, the girls painted their backgrounds which ever color they decided. Everyone learned to mix paint in order to create their desired colors.

The final products were amazing! The girls were so excited they each named their unicorns.

It was such a pleasure to facilitate this creation party in celebration of an amazing girl named Avery. Thank you for letting me be apart of your special day!

Plein Air Painting

For the first three days of summer break, I participated in a Baltimore County Public Schools Art Educator workshop at the Hampton National Historic Site.

The first workshop was “Painting with Pastels. We got an overview of some of the history of the site prior to choosing where and what to create and were able to roam where we pleased to create art inspired by the park.

We gathered together around 2pm to discuss all of the work we’ve created! The workshop was scheduled to be over at 3 but we didn’t even finish our talk until 3:40! Art teachers really like to discuss each others work.

The next workshop was Plein Air Painting for 2 days! The weather was gorgeous and I surely got some vitamin D. I love being able to create art inspired by a place I am drawn to. The Hampton National Historic Site is one of those places. Baltimore County Teachers have come to Hampton for the past 4 years to practice our skills using our very own National Park. Most teachers use this workshop to create their own art for the Student/Teacher Art Exhibit the Hampton Historic Inc. facilitates in April. Teachers also take their inspiration back to their classroom and teach their students about Hampton while creating art that is inspired by the site.

Last year there were over 100 submissions into the 4th Annual Student/Teacher Art Exhibit. This is a perfect opportunity for teachers and students to be recognized for their amazing work.

This year I decided to do an intuitive painting for the plein air workshop. I used tools, and my color combination layer to create an emotionally fill painting.

When I first started painting I was drawn to the Bee Balm flowers, so I started with them in mind. After making my first two layers of colors I noticed a mark that looked like a woman! I knew I had to keep her, as I felt like maybe she was Eliza Ridgely or her daughter.

Eliza Ridgely was an avid gardener, and in the 1830s and 1840s she improved the gardens and enhanced the landscape at Hampton, planting exotic trees such as the Lebanon Cedar which still stands on the house’s south lawn. She is said to have brought this herself as a seedling from Europe, carrying it in a shoebox. She did a lot for her slaves, was which was unheard of in her time. She took care to make sure they were clothed, fed, given gifts during Christmas, church services on Sunday and even marriages between the slaves, not caring that slaves weren’t able to actually be apart of a civil act.

Eliza’s daughter, Eliza, did not want to be the lady of the house and take over the duties her mother had so willingly adopted. Her daughter wanted to be friends with the slaves, and to be free to be a normal girl. She felt trapped in the life she was born into.

While I was painting I kept hearing, “everyone has a story.” A lot of times the major story focused on at the mansion is the story of the enslaved people at Hampton. I appreciate the awareness and knowledge I gain from the park rangers about the life of the enslaved. I know their story is vital to the Ridgely family history… without their slaves, life for the Ridgely’s wouldn’t have been the same. But it is also important to see that within every experience, there are multiple perspectives, there are multiple stories to be told.

The Ojibwe teach that not one road is higher than the next…that each road shines light on the others. Each of our perspectives, each of our stories are valuable and vital to the totality of our life experiences.

I am grateful to be able to learn multiple perspectives about the history of the Hampton National Historic Site, from life as an enslaved person to the life of the family. I am able to learn about plants, flowers and landscaping along with art and culture in the 1800’s. There is still much to uncover and learn about Hampton and I look forward to how the history at this location resonates with experiences I have in my life.

12 more days of school…

It does not feel like there is only 12 days left of this school year!! I have started cleaning, clearing and organizing my classroom!!

Believe it or not, I really enjoy this part. I am all about organizing things, I just can’t always find the time to do it! 12 more days to get this room in order!!

In the mean time, my 8th grade students are doing Intuitive painting! We experimented with tools and techniques to create the background color for our paintings. It was way too much fun!

The students are totally enjoying working the hallway…. I like it too. It makes the classroom a lot quieter and the kids in the room can focus better. Those in the hallway are getting more work done as well!

My 8th grade GT art students are working on their self portraits, and they are turning out FABULOUS!

There are so many amazing things happening here… and we only have 12 more days of school, which is really only 6 for my classes to finish because I see them every other day!

We got this!

Art & Soul CEEQER Retreat

I am super excited to be hosting my first retreat! The Art and Soul CEEQER Retreat, Journey to the Divine I Am. July 7th-9th 2017. This is a full moon weekend as well!

My dear friend Amber and I have come together to host an art and soul retreat. Unleashing our Divine I am through art, nature and meditation.

Amber Evans will lead yoga and meditations for the three day retreat, discussing releasing old patterns and awakening our divine energy within us. We are each powerful beings capable of living the life we desire, we just have to remember how! Focusing on our intentions and the power of positive affirmations, we can manifest our desires.

I am Light, I am Human, I am Thankful

When each of us is focused on being the best version of ourselves, we help each other be the best as well. The Ojibwe say all roads are equal, no path is higher than the next. By being authentic and respecting each journey, we all shine light on each others paths.

I will be facilitating the release of things that no longer serves us through intuitive art making. We will tap into our energy and express it through a free flowing painting process. No painting experience necessary! Intuitive art comes from the heart… everything you do comes from within… the colors you chose, the shapes you make, the lines you see… everything will evolve as it should, representing your energy through your mark making.

This intuitive painting is all about the process, but will create an energetic piece for you to take home and use as a reminder of your Divine I am.

Here are few examples of some Intuitive Painting Workshops I have facilitated

The retreat will be hosted at Amethyst Retreat Center in Duncannon, Pa. It is a beautiful location in the middle of nature. A perfect place for a full moon fire ceremony and lots of releasing and healing. There will be a nature walk, and a meditation in the labyrinth.

We would love for you to join us on this journey to our Divine. To register click here!

Art is Prayer

“How breathtaking it is to start out on a journey into the unknown. To start off in new directions takes courage, and faith. Faith that even when there are no external signs to indicate where or how we should proceed, we are not lost.”

IMG_8405

These paintings are dreams and visions from within, brought to life through layers of colors, lines, shapes and energy. Each painting was uncovered through a process of intuitive exploration. Five of these paintings reflect a journey to the Divine I AM inspired by a series of tarot cards. Each painting embodies and is attuned with the frequency of a specific tarot card.

Art is a powerful tool, not just for gratification of self-expression, but as a vehicle of transformation.

Art is Prayer, a sacred and vital discovery of one’s own special presence in the world.

Through creation, a person illuminates and illustrates their inner being, while creating something which also stands separate.

Through exploration and experimentation each of us can shine light on our inner world, allowing us to utilize expression as a means of awakening our Divine I Am.

“The root and full practice of the arts lies in the recognition that art is power, an instrument of communion between the self and all that is important, all that is sacred.”

Peter London, No More Second Hand Art.

My art is hanging at Reiki by Rickie‘s in Harrisburg until the end of June and last night was the wine and cheese reception! It was an amazing time sharing and communing with friends. I realized after last night that I really enjoy talking about my art process and about the images and meaning behind my paintings.

Its really fantastic to hear other people talk about my paintings. To see my work through new, different eyes. Its amazing to hear that what they feel from my work is exactly what I was thinking and putting into the painting. I am so grateful for those who showed up and everyone’s positive feedback and support. We are all on this journey together… I know when I am at my best and centered my own energy shines light on each of your beautiful souls and the amazing gifts you have to offer the world… and when you shine your light you help me see myself more clearly.

Hot Pickles at Codorus

After weeks of energy shifts, this weekends energy was well received. I spent the weekend in the woods at Codorus State Park with my family and friends. We rented a tent site in loop A, and stayed Friday night and Saturday night. Friday night we set up our camp, and had smores with the kids!

My littles <3

My friends Billy, Pj and Sabrina were also camping at Codorus and invited us to come and hang with them. Billy has a T@G teardrop camper… if you don’t know… a teardrop is an awesome little trailer unique like its name, and it comes in all different styles. I am planning my own custom design for the near future!

18558947_10100468018255182_133065881547587839_o

After the kids were asleep I went to have Pickles and hot sauce with Billy, Pj and Sabrina. Billy makes his own pickles, and they are gourmet! Chesapeake style or dill… I have never tasted a pickle so well made! My friend Pj makes his own hot sauce, and even though I am not one for spicy things, I have to say his hot sauce was also delicious. Team Hot Pickles has been formed. Saturday morning I had delicious sausage and eggs that Sabrina wok’ed up. I am so fortunate to have such talented friends who spoil me with their concoctions!

Saturday afternoon we went for a kayaking adventure! Billy and I had an inflatable two person kayak, the Challenger K2 by Intex. I never knew that they had inflatable kayaks! I was a bit nervous, especially after Billy informed me that he was cursed with a lack of balance over water, but we did pretty well!! We were out for about an hour or so and the kayak was very comfortable…and we did NOT tip over. It was also easy to inflate and deflate and is now on my list as one of my next adventure purchases.

Saturday evening Element and I had to leave to try on her costume for her dance recital in June! She is getting so big! Afterwards we headed right back to camp. I love that my kids enjoy being outside as much as I do!

When we returned, we went fishing with Theo, Artorious and Landyn. It was really nice seeing the kids all fishing together. We didn’t catch anything, but we’re getting better at casting.

Theo bought me a water purifier, so I was able to try it out. I was a little nervous scooping up that lake water, but I drank from the filter and didn’t get sick! I guess that’s enough of a trial to tell if it works or not.

Sunday was a nice day, as we packed up and headed home in time for me to get to Firefly Hollow for a painting workshop!

Overall my weekend was fantastic! A perfect weekend to rest and recharge in nature and with great people. The universe always balances out…

Thank you Theo, Landyn, Element and Artorious for choosing me to be your momma. <3 #TeamNuit

Painting my journey

Yesterday was my very first solo art show opening! I have the pleasure of being the artist for November and December at Mending Roots Wellness Center in Camp Hill Pa.
The opening reception was perfect, with lots of love, light and laughter. Thank you everyone for coming and sharing your time with me and my art <3
A few months ago, Tami at Mending Roots Wellness Center contacted me about being their artist for November and December. I had been meditating on having an art showing since the beginning of this year. I knew that it would happen when the time was right… so as soon as she messaged me I knew it was time.
This year my paintings have evolved into a style!
As an artist, I have been looking for my style to come through my work. Being a creator in many ways, I’ve always felt like I’ve lacked that thing that made me a “real” artist. Seeing other artists having their specific style, I wondered and put much energy into uncovering my own.
Intuitive painting is a way to tap into yourself and create a masterpiece. It’s about meditating and centering yourself in order to better hear what’s calling you, what you desire. The colors and placement of images comes from a feeling, trusting myself to let go and create what’s inside of me. It’s been a beautiful process for not only the growth of my art, but for my own personal and spiritual growth. It has helped me to be more intune with myself.
I started this journey through the lotus flower, and the buddha. Creating paintings as full moon meditations, and connecting with my intuition through breathing practices has really helped my art unfold in a deeper way. The layers evolve and create a depth that can be felt. It holds the energy within and makes the painting alive.
As my journey continued, I started becoming more aware of the animals around me. Seeing a Blue Heron every day in August and September taught me patience, persistence, and acceptance of my leadership role. Becoming more in tune with my native heritage, I realized the power of the Turtle, carrying the weight of man on her back. Aligning with my inner consciousness and seeing the world from a new perspective, the Water Dragon came to life. Finding knowledge and wisdom within, the Owl shows me we are all the gatekeepers of our own knowledge. The Elk shows me how to stand strong in my power, and how to persevere. The Buffalo brings the vision of promise, ancient wisdom and abundance.

I am looking forward to what the universe has in store for the next set of paintings. <3

Facilitating Creativity

A lot has happened in the past month, so much I haven’t had time to keep up with writing about it all!

I taught two faculty paint nights as team building workshops! Both went extremely well and everyone left feeling like an artist! First we painted a lighthouse, because Ridgely is a Baltimore County Lighthouse School, we each hung our paintings up in our classrooms. The second party we painted cherry blossom trees, which were more for our houses.

I also taught a dream catcher workshop at my friends yoga studio Life in Balance. There were 12 people in attendance and each created their own unique dream catcher!

There was also a birthday painting party! Lots of middle school girls painting circle designs, or any designs they desired! Each piece turned out awesome, and the girls had a blast!

There has been lots of painting going on!
