Beating Expectations

This past Friday, I held our monthly drum circle at Firefly Hollow Wellness Center in York, Pa.  Drum circles are the last Friday of every month, and I have been leading them for about 8 months.

Over the past few months the drum circle has developed its own style and pace. We have regulars who attend almost every month, and we keep adding more people!

This past month a group of about 15 students, from the Boys and Girls Club of Harford County Maryland, joined our circle.

I have to be honest… I was little anxious about 15 students joining our ever growing group of 10-20 people. Firefly Hollow has a beautiful large room where we hold our circles, however I was just a little unsure if it would be too tight.

On top of feeling anxious about the amount of people attending, I started to wonder how 15 middle and high school students would do, in terms of beat and rhythm of the instruments.  This drum circle is definitely not geared towards advanced drummers only… we have a lot of new people who come and want to join in the music making because it fills their heart. That is why I lead… because when we create whether art or music, vibrating energy into the universe, and when we put positive intentions into those creations, we send out the love.

So as always I reflected on the evening, and how the event unfolded. Wow, the universe really showed me beautiful things happen when we are willing to surrender and let go. When I let go of my expectations for the drum circle, the anxiety lessened. When I opened my heart to the moment, a whole new experience unfolded… one that had never crossed my mind.

I was anxious because I thought I would have to teach these boys and girls … changing the tempo of our circle from making music to “follow these steps”. But what really happened was that these beautiful souls were brought to the circle to teach us a lesson… on how to let go and surrender to the moment.

When we let go, they all let go. It was so beautiful to watch unfold. One of our regular drum-and-dancers decided to get all the girls together to teach them a few ceremonial dance moves that went to the beat of our drumming. Every girl that came was up learning and doing these moves. My heart was full… of love and light… watching everyone from different walks of life, come together in song and dance.

That drum circle I learned to let go of expectations when they are causing fear, let go of worry… doubting things will turn out a certain way, and be open to whatever the universe presents for us, with gratitude and love.

Thank you Angie for bringing your beautiful students to join our circle. I hope to drum with them again in the near future. Thank you everyone who attended our May drum circle… you all made it a magickal experience for me and touched the lives of those boys and girls.

Angie told me that they were so excited afterwards they talked about the circle the whole bus ride home! One girls mother asked her if she was sick because the girl went straight home and went to bed. She told her mother she was just exhausted because of all the fun she had during the drum circle. It was truly an experience I will remember.

Women’s Retreat

I was invited to attend a Women’s Weekend Away retreat hosted by my new friend Cindy Beers with Red Headed Yoga.  The retreat was held at beautiful Amethyst Retreat Center in Duncannon, Pa.

I was invited as a guest artist to work with the women on creating vision boards using the new moon and spring equinox energies, but it ended up as so much more for me.

Saturday was a beautiful day of connecting with women, experiencing new things, and releasing old stories that no longer serve our purpose.

My dear friend Linda D’Agostino is an acupuncturist and did a short session on our ears! She shared with us how easy it is to move our Qi every day to help align our energy. Maggie Salter presented a lecture on I Am affirmations, which was fantastic.

Melody Bishop shared her knowledge of Runes, with doing a short reading for everyone. I received the Raidho rune, which was a perfect synchronicity.  I was in the right place at the right time. Melody described it as on my journey, and that weekend was definitely a huge part of my journey.

Raidho

Raidho

Sound: “r”
Stands for: Wheel, Cartwheel (or Riding)
Color: Blue (Black)
Casting meaning: This rune allows us to focus our energy so that we may obtain our goals. However to do so effectively we must be “in the right place at the right time.”

You’re about to embark on a journey – either in the physical world or a journey of your soul to heal something that needs healing.

Joyce Marafka shared her knowledge on Enneagrams, having each of us take a brief test to find out our personality type. I felt drawn to 3 different personality types!

7    THE ENTHUSIAST
Enneagram Type Seven

The Busy, Variety-Seeking Type:
Spontaneous, Versatile, Acquisitive, and Scattered

Type Seven in Brief

Sevens are extroverted, optimistic, versatile, and spontaneous. Playful, high-spirited, and practical, they can also misapply their many talents, becoming over-extended, scattered, and undisciplined. They constantly seek new and exciting experiences, but can become distracted and exhausted by staying on the go. They typically have problems with impatience and impulsiveness. At their Best: they focus their talents on worthwhile goals, becoming appreciative, joyous, and satisfied.

I realized that I use this part of my personality to compensate for my fear of stepping into my role of leadership… which is 8.

8   THE CHALLENGER
Enneagram Type Eight

The Powerful, Dominating Type:
Self-Confident, Decisive, Willful, and Confrontational

Type Eight in Brief

Eights are self-confident, strong, and assertive. Protective, resourceful, straight-talking, and decisive, but can also be ego-centric and domineering. Eights feel they must control their environment, especially people, sometimes becoming confrontational and intimidating. Eights typically have problems with their tempers and with allowing themselves to be vulnerable. At their Best: self- mastering, they use their strength to improve others’ lives, becoming heroic, magnanimous, and inspiring.

Eights are charismatic and have the physical and psychological capacities to persuade others to follow them into all kinds of endeavors—from starting a company, to rebuilding a city, to running a household, to waging war, to making peace.

Eights have enormous willpower and vitality, and they feel most alive when they are exercising these capacities in the world. They use their abundant energy to effect changes in their environment—to “leave their mark” on it—but also to keep the environment, and especially other people, from hurting them and those they care about. At an early age, Eights understand that this requires strength, will, persistence, and endurance—qualities that they develop in themselves and which they look for in others.

I also felt close to a 9, which is a peacemaker. I believe I am using my 8 energy to bring about the 9.

9   THE PEACEMAKER
Enneagram Type Nine

The Easygoing, Self-Effacing Type:
Receptive, Reassuring Agreeable, and Complacent

Type Nine in Brief

Nines are accepting, trusting, and stable. They are usually creative, optimistic, and supportive, but can also be too willing to go along with others to keep the peace. They want everything to go smoothly and be without conflict, but they can also tend to be complacent, simplifying problems and minimizing anything upsetting. They typically have problems with inertia and stubbornness. At their Best: indomitable and all-embracing, they are able to bring people together and heal conflicts.

We have called personality type Nine The Peacemaker because no type is more devoted to the quest for internal and external peace for themselves and others. They are typically “spiritual seekers” who have a great yearning for connection with the cosmos, as well as with other people. They work to maintain their peace of mind just as they work to establish peace and harmony in their world. The issues encountered in the Nine are fundamental to all psychological and spiritual work—being awake versus falling asleep to our true nature; presence versus entrancement, openness versus blockage, tension versus relaxation, peace versus pain, union versus separation.

Joyce connected each personality type to different goddess’ and tarot cards from different decks, as well as to different oils that each type could use to help with balancing that aspect of themselves.

On Saturday evening a beautiful soul Edyta Hutchman came and held an amazing women’s circle. It was the most fantastic releasing experience I’ve had in a while. Prior to the circle she did henna and spirit animal readings for the ladies, which was my first time getting henna! Thank you Edyta, for creating such a magickal circle. Your spirit is pure love, and I am forever changed seeing my reflection in you.

I am so in love with henna,  I bought some and did it for my little girl Element. We had such a blast… and now I am planning to do private henna sessions at Firefly Hollow Wellness Center, along with the many other activities I host there.

I have to send out love and light to all the amazing women I met during the retreat.

All of you are amazing goddess’ who have such beautiful and admiring strength and will power. Thank you for opening up and being authentic with yourself and each other. Thank you for your vulnerability and support. Thank you for your love and light. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to share space, energy and love with you all. I learned so much from each of you, and you are forever in my hearts.

Migwetch Cindy… for being in tune with your journey enough to know when, where, and how to hold this amazing space for such healing and uplifting. You are a treasure.

commUNITY Flower of Life: B1

Last weekend I had the pleasure of facilitating a commUNITY event at Firefly Hollow Wellness Center. We created banner for Project B1 to show our commUNITY and send a message of peace, love, and celebration to all.

I drew the flower of life on a 3 ft x 6 ft banner, and each person who attended decorated spheres in the flower of life until it was complete.

This visually shows how we are all interconnected! The message was surrounded in love and light through mindfulness and uplifting discussion with one another. We built relationships, and connected on many levels.

[:project b1] is a living breathing art event designed to foster positive changes in the U.S.

The media all around us says we are divided. Not just as a Nation, but also as a Family, as a humanity, as a society. Lets show them we are interconnected.

The concept is simple. We need to start the healing process. We need to come together with complete tolerance and love for one another. We need to lift each other up, so that we can all live in peace, celebrating each others differences. Messages of love and unity will literally surround those who need it.

The physical part of this project is as follows: approximately 250, 3’x6’ (fitted twin) sheets will be marked with positive messages (both writing and drawing). These panels will be connected and banners will be held by volunteers and surround the White House (Pennsylvania Ave, 17th St. NW, Constitution Ave, 15th St. NW) on February 1, 2017 from 12pm to 3pm.

Notes:
[:project b1] is a collaboration with artists, writers, musicians etc..
The “b1” in the project title stands for “Be One” with each other.
The multi colored sheets signify the diversity among the art community.
Tying the sheets/banners together symbolizes our unity.
“Surrounding” the White House will symbolize our unity.
February 1 is National Freedom Day.
This project could expand to other cities and other countries.

If you are interested in creating a banner… please do so, and contact Project B1 on Facebook.

I honesty know in my heart and soul that there was no way for me to go on this journey without you by my side. The universe placed you in my life for so many beautiful reasons… this journey was only the beginning to an amazing friendship. You have always been one of the best friend a girl could ask for, and now you’re   even more like a sister to me. I couldn’t have shared this experience with anyone else the way it was meant to be shared. Migwetch and gizaagii’n, I love you to life! I am so looking forward to continuing this journey with you!
