Sacred Retreat

I know many people who are entrepreneurs, and small business owners. The world is different from the point of view of owning and operating your own business, whether it’s making art to sell at craft fairs and events, or doing reiki in a room you rent at a wellness center.

As practitioners, makers, and vendors we have in essence two jobs. One is to practice and create the thing we are passionate about. The other is to manage and structure the flow of that passion into a sustainable living.

Sacred Retreat

The REVIVE, REFILL, REFRESH retreat was planned with a vision, hosting a space for people to come and find their center. To come and revive, refill and refresh their soul. What we received was far more powerful then we could’ve ever imagined.

There were 8 participants, and 8 vendors. Each vendor presented a 30-45 min workshop about something they were passionate about.

Auria Faith lead us in an active listening activity where we were partnered up and then given a sheet of questions to ask the other person. The trick was we could only listen to their responses. We were not to talk back or have a conversation about the answers.

She also led us in a guided meditation using essential oils to envision our passions as a seed growing and expanding out into the universe. The choice of oils were Lavender, Wild Orange, and Manuka. Most everyone went for the meditative qualities of Manuka.

Merlin Peters discussed Tensor Rings and how he was lead to being creating them. Marlin discusses how the length of the copper wire is important to how the ring works. Tensor rings transmute negative ions into positive flows. It clears out energy from EMF’s as well.

Joanna Baker lead us in a guided meditation to our shadow selves to see and accept ourselves as we truly are, from all points of view. This was a very peaceful meditation for me, as I felt my shadows were simply there as way showers for the path.

Johanna Geister talked about our energy bodies, discussing the different energy lines and points of our body. She also led us in a grounding visualization where we all went barefoot to the grass to connect with the earth and envision our energy flowing through us as we breathed. It was such a beautiful experience with a little mist coming from the clouds rolling over. She also taught restorative yoga which was a perfect ending to the day.

Brenda Solonoski from Burns Valley Herbals and Retreat gave everyone a tour of her gardens, and identified plants that most people would find in their environments.

She also led a bundle, and tea or steam blend making workshop where people created their own smudge bundles from freshly picked herbs.

Jeanne Ruczhak-Eckman from Therapeutic Thymes shared with the group ways to take their business to the next level through target marketing. Therapeutic Thymes is a holistic and nature magazine based out of York.

Jill Reed from Green Healing Room shared her journey to practicing stone readings and was available for readings for everyone. She read EVERYONE at the retreat, each reading was spot on and exactly what each person needed to hear. After her readings she gave each person a stone that was called for them. I received two rough cut jades. These stones have really been powerful for me lately. Holding them while I meditate. Jill has a gift to translating messages she’s open to receiving for each person she reads.

I shared how creativity is spirituality, using the flower of life and sacred geometry to tie everything together. Everyone explored creating the flower of life as we discussed how the meditative process opens up your mind to seeing new perspectives. I also was blessed to share intuitive henna with a few people <3

Each of us has a passion and a desire to share that passion with others. Most of our time is spent working on our goals to keep our fire burning, as well as learning ways to share what we know with others. When we do events and vend at places, a lot of energy goes into preparing our gifts, as well as our hearts and minds for the many people we will interact with throughout the event. We rarely have time for our own sacred retreat.

Rarely do we have time to commune with one another. Let alone share and learn from one another. We each have so many gifts we offer the world, but we are also the people who miss receiving those gifts. We give so much of our time to goals, that we rarely have time to be open to receiving.

This sacred retreat was a time for vendors to come together and share and receive from one another. This retreat showed us how important this was for each of us. We need to remember we too deserve to receive our gifts. It gave us time to listen, and process what we learned. To sit and communicate our own experiences and thoughts. To be there for each other, witnessing each others light and standing in our own.

When we heal ourselves, we help others on their journey by sharing what we’ve learned. Supporting one another by holding space for self expression and authenticity is vital, we are all connected.

I am forever grateful for those who participated in the sacred retreat, Revive, Refill and Refresh in August. Miigwetch to all my relations.

Stinging Nettle

Stinging nettle has been used for hundreds of years to treat painful muscles and joints, eczema, arthritis, gout, and anemia. Nettle is a superb nourishing food and has beneficial actions on many parts of the body including the urinary tract, liver, digestive tract, reproductive system, and respiratory system. Known as an overall nourisher and strengthener, stinging nettle leaf is full of vitamins and minerals most notably magnesium, calcium, iron, and protein.

Harvesting stinging nettle at Burns Valley Herbals and Retreat was such a learning experience. I used gloves to hold the nettles while I cut them, however I still got stung.

I learned when brushed by the nettle, its best to leave the area alone so it will sting less. If you touch the area a lot, it rubs the sting into your skin more and lasts longer! I got a few welts and a rash from where the nettle touched me above the gloves! It went completely away within 12 hours.

Nettle’s sting, however, reminds us to value our gifts just as we must honor and protect our work if we are to remain healthy. With her sting, she asks us to recognize and honor the worth of what she gives; if you’re willing to brave the sting to gain her treasure, you’re more likely to value what you have taken.

Water Meditation

Water is life.
It flows… freely or with structure.
It rushes loudly or trickles softly.
Filling the world with its music.
Carrying away all of our thoughts and cares.
Water cleanses.
Reminding us that nothing stays the same.
Its constant rush is grounding
There’s security in the rush of the water.

The Magick of the Flowing Hollow

The Flowing Hollow is a beautiful magickal place at Burns Valley Herbals and Retreat.

Water flows from the spring out of the mountain, into a little creek.

Stones border the creeks edge, creating a path through this magickal water world.

There is more to the Flowing Hollow than water, there is an abundance of life from the earth, and a breeze from the wind. The stone circle brings the warmth of fire to all who gather around. There is also so much spirit, you can feel it.

I am so blessed to be able to spend time down in the Flowing Hollow and am excited to share its magick with others!

Here is a video of it in the day time,

Here is a video of it at night!

Quarantine Art Series: Mullein

Deciding on a topic for my quarantine art series, I tend to take a minute to listen to what the universe is showing me. I felt drawn to the garden this day…and the beautiful leaves of the mullein plant.

Courage, health, love and protection.

These are things we are all hoping, praying and wishing for during this quarantine time.

Mullein represents all of these things. The leaves of this plant used to be placed into little satchels under one’s pillow to keep away nightmares, and to attract love, health and protection. In fact, it was believed that wearing mullein would ensure fertility, and also keep potentially dangerous animals at bay while in the wilderness. Mullein was also used to help treat respiratory problems, and can be used as toilet paper!

The universe speaks through all things… mullein being synchronistic to COVID-19 in so many ways! Reminding us that nature provides all of our needs, if we are open and willing to listen and receive.

Burns Valley Herbals and Retreat

This past week was filled with peace and self care. Taking time to work on things here and there. I am blessed to have amazing people in my life… Brenda and Joe Solonoski are two of them.

wp-1585498313944.jpg

They own Burns Valley Herbals and Retreat which is so much more than just an AirBnb in Doylesburg PA. This land is such a sacred healing place, backing up to the Tuscarora State Forest and the Hemlock natural area.

There is much to be excited about Burns Valley Herbals and Retreat this coming year. Even in the midst of this COVID crisis, we are planning and preparing for a beautiful summer filled with amazing opportunities to gather, learn and create!

While up here we created a youtube channel and uploaded a few of Brenda’s plant identification videos and she is working on making a few more! Check out the channel, and remember to like and subscribe!

Brenda is a lover of the earth, and grows medicinal herbs which she blends into teas, steams, soaks and more. Brenda loves to share her knowledge and passion for plants! She is also a huge believer in the power of the earth to heal.

There are so many amazing things to do at Burns Valley! Check out a few things we’ve been up to! Taking hikes, making art, setting up gnome and fairy gardens, playing disc golf, saving a woodpecker that flew into the window, collecting cattails, doing a puzzle, playing board games, hanging out by the fire and cooking! This is the perfect space for my mind, body and soul.

Sending well wishes to everyone!

Nature Mandalas

20190403_103319

6th graders went outside and created nature mandalas with our student teacher Anne Scott, which were inspired by Morning Altars artist Day Schildkret…

I have quite an unusual mission: To make impermanent earth art every day. Ever since I was five years old, I have been creating art with the flowers, leaves, berries, and bark right outside my front door. This has always been a way for me to feel connected, both to my imagination and the whole earth. About five years ago, after a big break-up with my partner, I started this as a daily mindfulness practice to heal my heart, help me feel gratitude, connect with the earth and make meaning in my life. However, this art wanted to have a life of its own. Over the last decade, I have created over a thousand small and large earth installations that have inspired an international movement of people to get outside and make earth art. I even have a book coming out this October! And, here’s the unique thing: Every single piece of art I have made no longer exists and that is its power: Learning how ephemeral life truly is and to love what is here right now.

Students watched a video where Day describes a little about the process of morning altars and how it can transform our perspective. Then we went outside and walked the land to gather our own natural elements. We also provided the students with flowers, beans and strings. My student teacher lead the students to create group nature mandalas!

This was such an awesome day for this assignment. The sun was shining and it felt like spring. The outdoor classroom tables and benches that were created by George Washington Carver Center for the Arts students created were the perfect place for the groups to work.

Each team member of the group had to direct a specific ring of the mandala, sharing with the students how to place the materials. I found that a few groups decided on all rings together, while others really stuck to the one ring per person.

When it was time to clean up, the students were sad and disappointed that they had to clean up their mandala. Taking a picture of their mandalas before they cleaned them, seemed to relieve their anxiety of having to disassemble it.

Check out the video we made!

Earth Month is off to a great start!!

Art & Soul CEEQER Retreat

I am super excited to be hosting my first retreat! The Art and Soul CEEQER Retreat, Journey to the Divine I Am. July 7th-9th 2017. This is a full moon weekend as well!

My dear friend Amber and I have come together to host an art and soul retreat. Unleashing our Divine I am through art, nature and meditation.

Amber Evans will lead yoga and meditations for the three day retreat, discussing releasing old patterns and awakening our divine energy within us. We are each powerful beings capable of living the life we desire, we just have to remember how! Focusing on our intentions and the power of positive affirmations, we can manifest our desires.

I am Light, I am Human, I am Thankful

When each of us is focused on being the best version of ourselves, we help each other be the best as well. The Ojibwe say all roads are equal, no path is higher than the next. By being authentic and respecting each journey, we all shine light on each others paths.

I will be facilitating the release of things that no longer serves us through intuitive art making. We will tap into our energy and express it through a free flowing painting process. No painting experience necessary! Intuitive art comes from the heart… everything you do comes from within… the colors you chose, the shapes you make, the lines you see… everything will evolve as it should, representing your energy through your mark making.

This intuitive painting is all about the process, but will create an energetic piece for you to take home and use as a reminder of your Divine I am.

Here are few examples of some Intuitive Painting Workshops I have facilitated

The retreat will be hosted at Amethyst Retreat Center in Duncannon, Pa. It is a beautiful location in the middle of nature. A perfect place for a full moon fire ceremony and lots of releasing and healing. There will be a nature walk, and a meditation in the labyrinth.

We would love for you to join us on this journey to our Divine. To register click here!

Hot Pickles at Codorus

After weeks of energy shifts, this weekends energy was well received. I spent the weekend in the woods at Codorus State Park with my family and friends. We rented a tent site in loop A, and stayed Friday night and Saturday night. Friday night we set up our camp, and had smores with the kids!

My littles <3

My friends Billy, Pj and Sabrina were also camping at Codorus and invited us to come and hang with them. Billy has a T@G teardrop camper… if you don’t know… a teardrop is an awesome little trailer unique like its name, and it comes in all different styles. I am planning my own custom design for the near future!

18558947_10100468018255182_133065881547587839_o

After the kids were asleep I went to have Pickles and hot sauce with Billy, Pj and Sabrina. Billy makes his own pickles, and they are gourmet! Chesapeake style or dill… I have never tasted a pickle so well made! My friend Pj makes his own hot sauce, and even though I am not one for spicy things, I have to say his hot sauce was also delicious. Team Hot Pickles has been formed. Saturday morning I had delicious sausage and eggs that Sabrina wok’ed up. I am so fortunate to have such talented friends who spoil me with their concoctions!

Saturday afternoon we went for a kayaking adventure! Billy and I had an inflatable two person kayak, the Challenger K2 by Intex. I never knew that they had inflatable kayaks! I was a bit nervous, especially after Billy informed me that he was cursed with a lack of balance over water, but we did pretty well!! We were out for about an hour or so and the kayak was very comfortable…and we did NOT tip over. It was also easy to inflate and deflate and is now on my list as one of my next adventure purchases.

Saturday evening Element and I had to leave to try on her costume for her dance recital in June! She is getting so big! Afterwards we headed right back to camp. I love that my kids enjoy being outside as much as I do!

When we returned, we went fishing with Theo, Artorious and Landyn. It was really nice seeing the kids all fishing together. We didn’t catch anything, but we’re getting better at casting.

Theo bought me a water purifier, so I was able to try it out. I was a little nervous scooping up that lake water, but I drank from the filter and didn’t get sick! I guess that’s enough of a trial to tell if it works or not.

Sunday was a nice day, as we packed up and headed home in time for me to get to Firefly Hollow for a painting workshop!

Overall my weekend was fantastic! A perfect weekend to rest and recharge in nature and with great people. The universe always balances out…

Thank you Theo, Landyn, Element and Artorious for choosing me to be your momma. <3 #TeamNuit
