Hierarchy: Sacred Ruler

I recently read an article on how Maslow got it wrong when he developed his hierarchy of needs. Learning that Maslow spent time with the Blackfoot tribe was a new discovery for me.

Hierarchy of Needs
Hierarchy of Needs vs. Siksika Perspective

The Blackfoot belief is not a triangle. It is a tipi where they believe tipis reach to the sky.

Self-actualization is at the base of the tipi, not at the top, and is the foundation on which community actualization is built. The highest form that a Blackfoot can attain is called “cultural perpetuity.”

Hierarchy

The world Hierarchy means: SACRED RULER. The earliest sense was ‘system of orders of angels and heavenly beings’. This idea of a system or organization in which people or groups are ranked one above the other according to status or authority.

The word sacred means connected with God (or the gods)… it comes from the root word for consecrate, which is dedicated or devoted. So hierarchy truly means a system devoted to God that organizes an arrangement or classification of things according to relative importance or inclusiveness.

What if we envisioned a hierarchy of our individual needs as as sacred way to connect with the divine! That is how the indigenous cultures saw it.

The Siksika tribe perceived existence in fluid way. They viewed time as cyclical and saw how each aspect of life was related… aiming to restore balance through their actions.

The idea of community actualization being based off of the fact that we are already born with everything, already divinely ourselves… is so powerful. It speaks to the idea of how important a creative, explorative, supportive and imaginative community actually is to self awareness!

In order to flow in the cycle of duality it is important to see that we must return to self awareness in order to remember the importance of self actualization. This can be done through cultural awareness. Once we have that cultural awareness, we can then start to have more self actualization, which will perpetuate our basic needs and safety, and cultural actualization. So it was important for Maslow to get it wrong in order for us to be clear on the entirety of the topic.

The way indigenous spiritual leaders took care of their tribe makes so much sense for the survival of their people. To create a safe space for the tribe members to be be their best selves. This relates so much to the Celtic tradition of the king marrying the land! The king married the land which showed his loyalty and allegiance to the land that supports his people and his life.

Another thing about this article that is interesting is the idea of wealth and how it was not about accumulating property and possessions. Sometimes I think people forget that money is simply a physical representation of their own current.

Money is not the root of all evil but rather the flow of the current of self actualization. If we stop connecting the idea of wealth to money, and allow money to be a manifestation of the wealth of our own energy… then we open ourselves up to receiving that which is divinely ours.

The word WEALTH comes from the root word for WELL or HEALTH. It has nothing to do with the idea possessions or money, though our current definition is simply that…. an abundance of valuable possessions or money.

What if we saw our will and our health as our most valuable possessions? When we hold that perspective we receive the flow of “money” as a physical manifestation of that awareness.

We are sacred rulers of our own design, our own life. We have the ability to create a hierarchy that resonates with who we truly are. Perhaps its time for a new hierarchy to be envisioned. <3

Illustration

A recent creative challenge word for my students was Illustration. After looking into the root of the word, I was fascinated that it comes from the world for illumination! Spiritual or intellectual enlightenment.

As I thought more about the context of this word and its meaning, which is … a picture illustrating a book, newspaper, etc. An example serving to clarify or prove something. The action or fact of illustrating something, either pictorially or by exemplification.

An illustration is a decoration, interpretation or visual explanation of a text, concept or process, designed for integration in published media, such as posters, flyers, magazines, books, teaching materials, animations, video games and films.

We are enlightened because we see.
When there is light, there is illumination.
When there is illumination there illustration.
When there is illustration there is enlightenment.
Art is the key to the divine.
To be enlightened, one must see this

Ambidextrous

Such a peculiar word….

From Latin ambi- ‘on both sides’ + dexter ‘right-handed’.

Interesting

Here is a post about what I am noticing about my time without being able to use my dominant hand.

Sunday, August 11th, 2019 I fell from a ladder while painting the crease between the ceiling and wall, and I broke my radius bone and fractured my ulna in my right wrist.

I am dominantly right handed… I am an artist, educator, mother and active participant in life. My right hand has defined me for many years.  Now, almost 37 years old, I find myself forced to be left handed. Yes forced, as sitting still is not an option.  Change is constant, and growth is my goal.

Ever since I was young, I practiced writing with both hands.  I think the ability to control both sides of our brains and bodies is a skill everyone can practice through different levels of experiments. And one that everyone should practice for the growth of their brain.

Lately I have done a good amount of creating with my right hand, painting and doing henna.  I feel like the universe is giving me the opportunity to grow and expand into my left side, which in turn balances me.

At first it was a lot to process… before I knew the specifics of the break.  Thoughts and questions raced through my head, however I was never overcome by these thoughts.  I held to the view that everything will turn out exactly how it was meant to.

I started having faith that all was in divine order and I am to learn from this things that will help me grow. That mindset has been vital in the healing process. The healing happens in allowing  oneself to go through the experience and let go of the trauma one moment at a time. To see the experience as a growing experience… not being attached to how we feel about it, but processing those feelings as the arise immediately following the experience.

So one thing I want to do is document my experience.  I dont see many people who have experienced unable to use their dominant hand.

It takes me longer to do things with only one hand working.  Which means I have to slow down and give myself more time.

So as of today, the bone was perfectly realigned, and I do not need surgery.  I go back in one week to get another xray and a permanent cast, which should be on for 6-8 weeks. This perfect timing for back to school, and setting up my classroom. I think we will have an even more student centered classroom this year, where the students get to decide how to set up our studio space!

Mindful Love

It can be difficult to quiet the mind when we have ideas and expectations.

Expecting forms an attachment, that sometimes we don’t realize is such.

For example our relationships with other people form expectations of how our relationships should turn out.

We expect a cause and effect … we connect to our ideas of how things should be or could be instead of allowing things to be what they are.

When we allow all things to be in the present moment, we are like a warrior taking a breath before releasing her arrow. A pause… in the moment… simply being.

Zero point

With a healthy detachment there is no friction causing sensations of pain. The alignment of our perspective with the immediate now helps us to reevaluate any situation where we find friction from attachment in our lives.

Once we take that breath we can make a conscious decision, rather than allowing our attachments to trigger emotional reactions.  We get to choose as to how we want the situation to unfold, and create healthy attachments through mindful response. We can come with unconditional love in any situation.

Mindful love.

Divine Retreat

In July my best friend Amber and I held a family fun weekend retreat.

It was divinely guided,
more than I could have ever imagined
and way different than I thought it would be.

We held the retreat at Amethyst Retreat Center in Duncannon Pa.
The perfect space for what the universe had in store.

There was yoga, community dinner, bonfire,
children’s laughter and communion between so many beautiful beings.
Learning about each other, while learning about ourselves.

The journey Amber and I went through to build this vision and dream was deep, and powerful growth for both of us. Learning what our true passions were and how to see ourselves as the leaders we are, to embrace the facilitator role we thrive in.
Gizaagin Amber <3 It would’ve have happened without you.

The weekend was magickal and beyond words.
I am so grateful for all the connections, growth and love we share
Migwetch to each of you beautiful souls.

Budget Cuts

There is an updated federal budget and it shows something that immediately triggered the CEEQER in me… a cut in funding to all the art and education programs.

budget_v2

This is a MAJOR shift and as an Art educator in the public school system, I will be affected by this change. So when I read this, I had to turn on my ceeqer senses.

Question the situation: What DOES this mean? How could this affect my reality? Brainstorm the possible outcomes from this situation, and all the possible meanings and reasons.  Not just reason from my mind, as those are but expectations, but also my intuition… from the divine.

Everything in reality relates to our energetic being… everything happens as it should on multiple planes in what we call existence. Its our perception of what is happening that makes us feel as though it should or shouldn’t be, or is or isn’t good.

So I asked myself… What was the world like before the arts were federally funded? What was education like before the arts? What would the world have been like without ever having art federally funded?

I know that Art Integration is the most holistic manner of learning… it is through experience and expression that we can relate to our reality and integrate new knowledge into our being.

Then I asked myself what would the world look like after the funds are taken away from these programs?  What exactly do these programs do? How do they assist in lifting up the divine being within us all?

As I reflect on these questions I realize this is the time for the divine light to shine bright in the darkness. When there is darkness, the light pierces through with such power and beauty that it is almost blinding.  Now is the time for all of us who are called to teach and serve to stand up and take a hold of our power and lead the way.

We are divine light… we are all unique and have beautiful gifts to share, to help each other grow and to make the most of this existence. When we know ourselves… when we are centered in our own light, we can shine bright for those around us to see themselves more clearly.

We are all creators… we do not need federal funding to see that.

This is that time.
The budget cuts are like a dimming of the city lights
which allows us to see the the moon brighter
Everything happens as it should,
it is time to take back our power and lead.

Art & Soul CEEQER Retreat

I am super excited to be hosting my first retreat! The Art and Soul CEEQER Retreat, Journey to the Divine I Am. July 7th-9th 2017. This is a full moon weekend as well!

My dear friend Amber and I have come together to host an art and soul retreat. Unleashing our Divine I am through art, nature and meditation.

Amber Evans will lead yoga and meditations for the three day retreat, discussing releasing old patterns and awakening our divine energy within us. We are each powerful beings capable of living the life we desire, we just have to remember how! Focusing on our intentions and the power of positive affirmations, we can manifest our desires.

I am Light, I am Human, I am Thankful

When each of us is focused on being the best version of ourselves, we help each other be the best as well. The Ojibwe say all roads are equal, no path is higher than the next. By being authentic and respecting each journey, we all shine light on each others paths.

I will be facilitating the release of things that no longer serves us through intuitive art making. We will tap into our energy and express it through a free flowing painting process. No painting experience necessary! Intuitive art comes from the heart… everything you do comes from within… the colors you chose, the shapes you make, the lines you see… everything will evolve as it should, representing your energy through your mark making.

This intuitive painting is all about the process, but will create an energetic piece for you to take home and use as a reminder of your Divine I am.

Here are few examples of some Intuitive Painting Workshops I have facilitated

The retreat will be hosted at Amethyst Retreat Center in Duncannon, Pa.  It is a beautiful location in the middle of nature. A perfect place for a full moon fire ceremony and lots of releasing and healing. There will be a nature walk, and a meditation in the labyrinth.

We would love for you to join us on this journey to our Divine. To register click here!

Art is Prayer

“How breathtaking it is to start out on a journey into the unknown. To start off in new directions takes courage, and faith. Faith that even when there are no external signs to indicate where or how we should proceed, we are not lost.”

IMG_8405

These paintings are dreams and visions from within, brought to life through layers of colors, lines, shapes and energy. Each painting was uncovered through a process of intuitive exploration. Five of these paintings reflect a journey to the Divine I AM inspired by a series of tarot cards. Each painting embodies and is attuned with the frequency of a specific tarot card.

Art is a powerful tool, not just for gratification of self-expression, but as a vehicle of transformation.

Art is Prayer, a sacred and vital discovery of one’s own special presence in the world.

Through creation, a person illuminates and illustrates their inner being, while creating something which also stands separate.

Through exploration and experimentation each of us can shine light on our inner world, allowing us to utilize expression as a means of awakening our Divine I Am.

“The root and full practice of the arts lies in the recognition that art is power, an instrument of communion between the self and all that is important, all that is sacred.”

Peter London, No More Second Hand Art.

My art is hanging at Reiki by Rickie‘s in Harrisburg until the end of June and last night was the wine and cheese reception! It was an amazing time sharing and communing with friends. I realized after last night that I really enjoy talking about my art process and about the images and meaning behind my paintings.

Its really fantastic to hear other people talk about my paintings. To see my work through new, different eyes. Its amazing to hear that what they feel from my work is exactly what I was thinking and putting into the painting. I am so grateful for those who showed up and everyone’s positive feedback and support. We are all on this journey together… I know when I am at my best and centered my own energy shines light on each of your beautiful souls and the amazing gifts you have to offer the world… and when you shine your light you help me see myself more clearly.

Growing in Grace

We all struggle with our thoughts, emotions, and feelings at one point or another. Sometimes we experience struggles back to back. Sometimes these struggles only come once in a while, but when they present themselves they are heavy and feel overwhelming.

As a person who is constantly questioning and reflecting on my experiences, so that I may see my relationship to this existence more clearly… I often find I do not allow myself to fully feel my emotions when faced with these struggles.

Often when I start to feel overwhelmed with emotions from stressful situations, I tend to reason them away. I tend to reflect so much on the situation that I don’t allow myself to fully feel and process my emotions. I starting realizing this pattern as I was presented with trying situations the past two weeks.

In the moments of emotional struggle that hardest part for me to reconcile is that I feel like I shouldn’t be feeling bad because I feel like I know better. I know that all of our experiences are here to teach us something about ourselves. I know that the way we perceive our emotions is just a thought that we’ve been programmed with. For example… Crying over spilled milk. Why would we cry over spilling our milk if there wasn’t some expectation attached to it. And what is an expectation but a thought we’ve intended for a specific experience.

I realize that our emotions are REAL. We do really feel them. They really affect us physically. We feel a pain in our chest when our heart hurts, we feel flutters in our stomach when we’re nervous. These are all real experiences. Our emotions effect us in our physical body, but first we react through thought about experiences and that is what determines the emotions we feel.

How do we determine how we react to a situation… through an assumption or expectation of how the situation will turn out.

Honestly, I was struggling the past two weeks.  I was feeling dark, selfish and self centered. Feeling bad that I only focus on what I desire, what I wish for, what I want…. on what makes me happy in the immediate moment. Feeling like nothing special, like I am not a great being. I am only me, living this existence each moment based off how I want. I felt selfish, horribly selfish…and the hardest part for me to reconcile is that I feel like I shouldn’t be feeling bad because I am light.

Even if we are aware of the light within us, we are still human. We still have thoughts and experiences that involve a full range of emotions. That’s what we are here to do…. experience.

We are here, meant to experience…. if we can become the best person possible through these experiences then why wouldn’t we want to experience everything we can. So when faced with struggles I say… “why not me?” This changes my perspective from… victim of circumstance to ceeqer of self; a C.E.E.Q.E.R. is one who creates, explores, experiments, questions, expresses and reflects on oneself and ones experiences.

My best friend Amber has been pulling cards for us from the I Am Power Deck by Devin at Mystic Moons Tarot  for the past few weeks.

This week’s cards were …

What we need to know: I am Light.
What we need to show: I am Human
What we need to grow: I am Thankful

This reading is perfect… we need to remember and know that we are Light… living a human experience. We need to share with one another and show that we are human. It is important to show our human side, because without it we would not be… and so we shall be thankful.

Knowing we are light, and showing we are human through grace.
